EDU Secretary-General personally thanks long standing Assessment Committee member Nuno Caetano Lopes de Barros Poiares
His Excellency G. Irving Levance, the Secretary-General, was pleased to meet with a much valued member of the Assessment Committee, Nuno Caetano Lopes de Barros Poiares, to thank him personally for his contribution to this intergovernmental organization.
Nuno is a graduate of the Military College (Lisbon), holder of two pre-Bologna degrees (Law and Police Science) and master’s degree in Sociology. He attended, with an final average of 18 points, the doctoral program in sociology (curricular component) and, at this time, is a PhD candidate in Sociology at ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa – the Lisbon University Institute.
He is a Police Commissioner with the Portuguese Polícia de Segurança Pública PSP) and serves as the Second in Command of the City of Beja, which is a great achievement for such a young man.
Besides this police work and following his own doctoral studies, he holds academic positions as Professor of Sociology of Law at the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, Professor of Sociology of Deviance on the Postgraduate Course in Forensic Nursing at Atlantic University and he directs dissertations at the Masters Course Criminology and Criminal Investigation at the O Instituto Superior de Ciências Policiais e Segurança Interna (ISCPSI) – (The Superior Institute of Police Sciences and Internal Security. Lisbon)

He is also a Research Assistant at the Center for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-IUL) and Guest Investigator UbiNET Lab - Computer Security and Cybercrime Research Centre and the ISCPSI.
Nuno Poiares has experience at international liaison, working in Brussels, Amsterdam and Angola and at other higher education institutions. He has authored and co-authored several titles in the field of Sociology and Deviant Behaviors.

The Secretary-General congratulated Nuno on his impressive multi-faceted career and his ability to apply himself so diligently to his professional and academic undertakings while also making time to be a devoted husband, who values family life greatly, as the proud father of triplets.
​His Excellency G. Irving Levance is fully aware that the ability to attract top flight professionals and academics such as Nuno Poiares to support the work of the intergovernmental organization is crucial to its continued success. It was for this reason that the Secretary-General was so pleased to hear Nuno reaffirm his support for, and commitment to, EDU.
The Secretary-General is convinced that, given his drive, passion for his duties, discipline and application, Commissioner Nuno Poiares will continue his swift ascent through both the ranks of the PSP Police in Portugal and in academia.
